Black Pepper Steak - Panda Express Copycat Recipe

Panda Express' black pepper steak is a quick and easy stir-fry recipe including onions, mushrooms, bell peppers, and of course the pull-apart, juicy steak pieces.

The secret to a flavorful Panda Express recipe is in the sauce! I love when the sauce is super thick and keeps the meat super juicy and filled with all the flavors.

If you're a lover of anything steak like my husband and me, you will love this juicy, flavorful dish served with a fresh bowl of white rice!

I chose to use minimal ingredients for this dish so that it really is quick and easy to whip up. Being Muslim, we can't use any kind of alcohol in our food. This recipe usually calls for cooking wine but I made it possible without needing the wine!

Let's get into our list of ingredients:

Ingredients

- 2 Angus Steaks, cut into 1-inch pieces

- 1 tbsp Corn Starch

- 4 tbsp Soy Sauce (1 tbsp for steak marinade, 3 tbsp for steak sauce)

- 2 tbsp Sesame Seed Oil

- 3 Garlic Cloves, minced

- 1 Onion

- 5 Whole Mushrooms, sliced

- 2 Bell Peppers, sliced

- 3 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce

- 1 tbsp Brown Sugar

- 1 tsp Black Pepper

Start by cutting your steak into 1-inch pieces. Put them in a bowl and marinate them with 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce. Cover the bowl and set aside.

Chop up your onion, mince your garlic cloves, and slice up the mushrooms and bell peppers.

In a pan, heat up 2 tbsp of sesame oil. Once heated, add your chopped onion. Once translucent, add your minced garlic cloves. Fry for a good minute until vegetables turn a nice brown color.

Add your mushrooms. Give all the vegetables a mix and cover your pan. Let cook until mushrooms start to soften.

Once your mushrooms are softened, add your bell peppers. Again, mix and cover so the peppers can soften. Give it a good 1-2 minutes.

Add your marinated steak pieces to the pan. Mix and cook until there is no more pink color on your steak pieces. This indicates that your steak is cooked.

---

While your steak is cooking, we will make the sauce. In a small bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, 3 tablespoons of worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Mix until the brown sugar is dissolved.

Once your steak is cooked and the vegetables are nicely softened, pour your sauce into the pan. Give it a mix and turn your heat to medium. Let it cook until the sauce thickens. Then it's done! Serve over fresh white rice!
